I am walking about 5-6 miles every day (in my home town of San Diego) until I reach 3,073 miles, (as measured on my Fitbit) which would take me across America from San Diego to Washington D.C. I'm posting about points of interest along the way, as well as information and commentary about the laws and culture that affect transgender people in the states through which I will be traveling. The Border Town of Los Algodones
I walked 5.34 miles today, bringing me to the small border town of Los Algodones in Baja, Mexico, population, 5,474. Here is a link to what it looks like where I am now. CLICK HERE
Los Algodones is mostly known for it's medical tourism, including discounted prescriptions, eye-glasses, and medical and dental care. Some say that "the care from their Algodones doctor or dentist is as good as anywhere back home." The medical provider facilities are concentrated close to the border. The town may be reached from the US side by Interstate 8, taking the 186 South. You can find a Visitor's Directory website here. Here is a site about the dentists of Los Algodones. Trip Advisor offers some advice about hotels in Los Algodones. Here's one man's story of his day trip to Los Algodones. I suppose it's "buyer beware" when it comes to dental treatments there, as not all the stories I read were positive. Despite the treatments being quite cheap, sometimes you get what you pay for. There are other items about which you need not worry about quality, such as cheap alcoholic beverages and other goods for sale.
