The Beginning of the Journey

So, this is a picture of me at the top of Stonewall Peak, taken a few weeks before I started my walking "journey."  Yes, I see the belly too, and the thick legs and arms.  That's because I'm about 75 pounds overweight in this picture.  At various milestones along the way, I will be posting more pictures of me.  Hopefully, we will see an improvement over time.  After walking 107 miles in 20 days, I am definitely feeling stronger, my wind has improved, and my resting heart rate has gone down from 64 bpm to 61 bpm.  I still have a long way to go, figuratively and literally, but it's nice to see some progress along the way.  I may surprise you occasionally by actually traveling to the cities along the pathway to Washington D.C. and get some photos that I, myself, take.  We'll see.  In the meantime, I will be using Trip Advisor to search for interesting places of interest around the locations we will virtually pass by, and post photos of those attractions for your amusement.  Well, I've already walked 2.13 miles today (about 5,000 steps).  It's about time for me to put in the mileage and finish out my 10,000+ day, which is the daily goal, by the way.  Some days I walk more than 10,000, like the other day when I did about 14,000.  It just depends on how good I feel and how much motivation I have.  If you're out and about in San Diego, you may see me walking.  Wave and say hi, like my friend, Gary Blume, did yesterday.  The next big milestone will be Yuma, AZ.  It should be coming up in about 10 days or so, depending on how fast I go.  I hear there is a really cool ghost town there, Castle Dome Mines Museum and Ghost Town.  I'll be sure to get some photos of that to post.  There's also the Yuma State Territorial Prison "park"(?)  Apparently, it's an historical preservation of the old Yuma State Prison.  That might be worth a gander, as some reviews seem to indicate.  There's also Martha's Gardens Medjool Date Farm.  I love dates, especially Medjool dates.  They are very sweet.  There look to be a few other "must see" spots in the Yuma area.  Who knows..maybe I'll drive over and take some of my own pictures, since it's not that far.  Ok, I'm off to put in some mileage.
