Wandering in the Desert

Well, I didn't post anything yesterday because I was just too tired; but also, there really wasn't anything interesting about which to post.  But, I have walked 8.9 miles in the last 2 days.

Here's a Google Earth picture of where I am on the mapped route....as you can see, the mapped journey has me in the middle of the desert, headed toward Phoenix...but, in the middle of nowhere.....except for one story that seems interesting, and that's about "Sundad," a ghost town that's just a bit North of my path.

Here's a video of one man's visit to Sundad.

Sundad is along the Agua Caliente road, West of Arlington.  Sundad started out in the 1920s as a sanitarium for tuberculosis patients, far enough away from Phoenix as to prevent its spread, but still in the warm, dry climate that was thought to be good for those who suffered with it.  But, it did not last long.

As you can see in the video, the location of Sundad is marked by white stones, spelling out the name, as well as a star and other designs created by biker clubs who have visited.  HikeArizona.com has a good description of the site.
