Maybe There's Gold Near Hyder, AZ

I walked 5.88 miles today.  Sadly, I didn't find any lost bars of gold while I was walking around San Diego.  Rats!

On the mapped route from San Diego to Washington D.C., that puts me at Hyder, AZ.  As previously mentioned in another post, "Hyder" was a camp that was part of the Desert Training Center that was run by Patton in the years leading up to desert warfare during WWII in North Africa.

In that context, it's even more fascinating that there is a story about some men who were involved in desert training who somehow stumbled upon some lost bars of gold, perhaps from Mexico.  Well, you have to read this story yourself.  I guess if you have lots of time, you have plenty of supplies, and a good metal detector, you might want to go looking for the "lost gold" that may be West of Hyder somewhere still today.  Somehow, I doubt the veracity of the story, but....I guess you never know.  A story of lost gold is always intriguing.  But, if you do go out looking for it, I suggest that you not stray into the Proving Ground, lest you get blasted into smithereens.  You might also want to read this story about someone who supposedly found a bunch of gold bars...maybe the lost treasure has already been found!
